Privacy Notice for the University of Vienna Donation Form

The controller responsible for the processing of your personal data is the University of Vienna, Universitätsring 1, 1010 Vienna, Austria.

What data we collect

In connection with your donation, we process the following personal data: name, address, e-mail address, telephone number (optional), payment information, as well as the donation amount and purpose.

Purposes and legal bases of processing

We process your data for the following purposes:

  • Processing your donation (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR – performance of a contract)
  • Fulfilment of tax and accounting obligations, in particular the issuance of donation receipts/confirmations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR – legal obligation)
  • Maintaining the donor relationship, sending reports on the use of your donation, and information about the work of the University of Vienna (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – legitimate interest, or, where applicable, based on your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
  • Sending newsletters and invitations only with your explicit consent

Disclosure to third parties

Your data will not be sold to third parties. Disclosure takes place exclusively to:

  • The payment service provider, for the purpose of processing your donation
  • Tax advisors or auditors, to the extent legally required
  • IT service providers acting on behalf of the University of Vienna (processors pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR)

Retention period

We store your data only for as long as necessary for the purposes stated above or for as long as statutory retention obligations apply (e.g., 7 years for accounting records under Austrian law).

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, and restriction of processing, as well as the right to data portability. Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, dsb.gv.at).
